You are responsible for developing and fostering the appropriate skills and social abilities, organising the classroom and learning resources, and creating displays to encourage a positive learning environment for pupils aged 3-11 years.

Secondary school teachers are subject specialists, skilled and trained to teach one or possibly two subjects across Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. As a subject specialist, a secondary school teacher is responsible for ensuring they are up to date with developments in their subject area, new resources, methods and national objectives.

Secondary school national curriculum

The role of a secondary school teacher has become more complex, as new teaching methods and resources have been introduced and developed. Over the course of the academic year, teachers are tasked with preparing pupils for qualifications and external examinations, whilst managing pupil behaviour, undertaking pastoral duties, and supporting children through academic and personal difficulties.

To ensure teaching standards are maintained, teachers undergo regular observations, participating in regular training through INSET and CPD, contributing towards the training and development of trainee teachers and NQTs. The introduction and support of subject specific teaching assistants has become a welcome addition to the classroom and has strengthened the focus on raising attainment, providing dedicated pupil support on a 1:1 and small group basis.

London secondary schools have become very diverse learning environments, catering for pupils of differing abilities, aged 11-16yrs and 11-18yrs. Clarus Education partner and support a number of schools, from voluntary aided faith schools and state maintained comprehensives though to outstanding academies.

  • 5 star review  I'm so happy I joined Clarus. This is one of the most competent agencies I've worked with who look out for you as an individual as well as the schools they supply. In particular Nikki who listened to me and helped me find a role that was exactly what I was looking for. She was supportive through the entire process, gave advice on how to perform on the trial day and as a result I landed the job. Nikki is an amazing consultant who works hard to make sure that the role she recommends is right for you. Definitely recommend Clarus and Nikki

  • 5 star review  I’ve always been a bit skeptical about agencies, but joining Clarus educations was the best choice I have made in a long time. I have been out of a school setting for a year working in the corporate world instead, but as soon as I started applying for jobs I got an email from George at Clarus Education, within a week of that email I had met George and had an interview at a school close to my house. George was absolutely amazing, he responded to all my emails quickly (in under 30 minutes) and was always on hand to help. If you do go to Clarus Education I would definitely ask for George, he made the whole process calm and fun and he is very easy to talk to about it all. Charly

  • 5 star review  I graduated last summer, and registered with the agency to apply for jobs as a teaching assistant to gain experience working in a school and decide whether I wanted to go into teaching. I was quickly given an interview, and Natalie came and met me at my school on my interview day to go through all the relevant paperwork and settle my nerves! I thoroughly enjoyed my year at the school working as a learning support assistant, and was sorry to finish in july. I gained experience in a variety of one-to-one, small group, and general class support roles. Natalie was always helpful in answering any queries I had, and for encouragement and support along the way. The experience helped my gain a place on a teacher training program me starting this September. Would recommend working with Clarus to anyone looking to gain some great experience in an enjoyable job in school!
